Responsibilities:

  • We are seeking a top-notch senior software engineer who is experienced and highly productive to work on end-to-end development of new and exciting products.
  • This is a unique opportunity to be part of the highly dynamic and motivated Development Tools team that develops innovative and elegant systems that run Akamai, one of the largest distributed systems in the world. The Akamai Global Network spans 1100+ networks in 70+ countries and is one of the largest distributed systems in the world.
  • The Infrastructure Engineering team develops systems that will enable Akamai to scale operations as it grows to a company with over a billion dollars in revenue. An ongoing project of this Bangalore-based group involves automating interaction with Akamai's product catalog.
  • We are currently automating order form generation which will make this team hugely popular to Akamai's sales force and resellers. The next big project is an incident tracking system for problems reported with Akamai's 25,000 edge servers. Other significant projects include Olympus, which tracks progress of products and features under development, and release tracking. We do full lifecycle development of multi-tier web application suites.
  • The application environment utilizes Ruby-on-Rails, PERL, some Java, and uses SOAP requests to connect to a Siebel CRM system. It runs on Oracle and My-SQL databases
  • Ruby is a powerful language that combines the object oriented features of Smalltalk and the brevity of PERL. We believe many companies will be moving to Ruby on Rails for their web applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field required. Advanced graduate degree (Master's or PhD) preferred
  • 4+ years of programming experience
  • A strong development background in at least one object oriented language like Java or C++
  • Web application development
  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Knowledge of one scripting language: Perl, Ruby, Python, or shell scripting
  • Experience in developing on Unix/Linux environment preferred.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, small-team environment
  • A strong work ethic and a positive attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Ideal candidate will have been exposed to or be eager to learn:

  • Full lifecycle development
  • Web development
  • Automated test suite creation
  • Database and data model management
