About the application you'll be working on:
Client’s tool is a mission-critical tool which collects a large amount of highly confidential information about sales contracts and, based on that, calculates contractual backlog units and dollars. The major stakeholders consist of Finance, Sales Operations, and Legal, equating to ~20 users. It is used to help manage contract contingencies, milestones, and other obligations up through the time a system is shipped. It also provides versatile reporting & analysis of backlog. It is an Access 2005 database with a good deal of manual input plus automated feeds from our Great Plains General Ledger.
Position: MS Access Developer
Responsibilities:
- The developer will work closely with Core Team members from Finance and Sales Operations under the direction of the Project Manager. We need someone with the technical knowledge and initiative to design, develop, and deploy high-quality enhancements.
- A great deal of backlog analysis is performed at quarter-end, making its way into earnings calls, so this person must provide quick turnaround support when production issues arise.
- They must also collaborate with the IT team with regard to all infrastructure matters affecting the tool such as directory management, security, backup, etc. We are considering a possible move to SQL Server 2005.
Other details:
- Expert developer of MS Access, including report writing and query construction
- Extensive, hands-on experience with accounting and financial systems
- Excellent spoken and written communication as well as receptive listening skills, with ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise fashion to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to interface with users, e.g. - for clarifying business requirements
- Motivated and able to work independently
- Reliable in delivering requested functionality on time
- Able to handle pressure associated with strict deadlines and high visibility of projects
- Organized for efficiency
- Willing and able to document definitions and processes
- Knowledge of SQL Server (optional)
- Familiar with business process mapping using tools such as Visio (optional)
